Lash Legacy Project
“Our mission is to transform lives by providing justice-impacted women with industry-leading lash extension training, entrepreneurial mentorship, and employment opportunities that foster economic empowerment, self-sufficiency, and a pathway to lasting success.”
Our Approach
Nationally, approximately 60% of formerly incarcerated individuals are unemployed in the first year after release (Bureau of Justice Statistics). In New York State, the consequences are significant: DOCCS spends an estimated $115,000 per incarcerated person per year to operate prison facilities, while the underlying drivers of recidivism — unemployment, poverty, lack of marketable skills — remain largely unaddressed by traditional correctional programming.
Women face compounding disadvantages. Most existing vocational programs in DOCCS facilities were designed for the male incarcerated population and focus on trades such as building maintenance, plumbing, and automotive repair — industries with persistent gender barriers to entry. Beauty trades represent one of the most accessible, license-achievable, self-employment-ready pathways available to women, yet lash artistry — the fastest-growing segment of the beauty industry — is entirely absent from DOCCS vocational offerings.
Our process is simple and thoughtful.
